Stripped Bare

I get up close and personal with one of Edinburgh’s hottest solo singer-songwriter.

Anderson It’s always a pleasure to grab a cuppa with Andrew to chat about his latest project. This time, his fifth (yes, fifth!) album is the topic of conversation.

Seven Blue was added to his collection of masterpieces earlier this year. The EP boasts an array of vocal diversity, with tracks that are so lyrically captivating it’s quite hard to believe that this guy hasn’t yet been whisked away by some corporate music mogul.

“The songs on this album differ in that they are stripped bare production wise,” he explains. “Which was the sound I was going for – it almost sounds like me with a guitar in an empty room.”

The preceding four albums have dipped into an array of genres: R&B, blues, folk, rock… the list is quite literally endless. And still Andrew maintains that he simply cannot be pigeonholed. Needless to say, Seven Blue is no exception.

“It’s mostly an acoustic album about a fictional town called Seven Blue,” he says proudly. “The main theme being how much the town and its people have a hold on those who live there or who have left, as well as relationships between lovers and friends.”

This offering from the Bathgate-born lad radiates an element of charm which the previous four have lacked. The imagery of each song adds to the attractiveness of the album, and would leave any listener absolutely love struck. Beautifully crafted, Andrew has created a record which would appeal to any acoustic fan (and a reputation for himself as a hopeless romantic).

However, greater things are promised from this young artist. Forever churning out new material, this summer is set to be very fruitful for Anderson.

“The second EP of 5 songs will be entitled After The War Is Over, and will be following very hot on the heels of Seven Blue” he explains.

“I also have quite a few songs for two very different projects for the near future which I’d love to work on instead of having to work for a living!”

With plans to release yet another EP, we can expect promotional gigs in and around the town very soon. So, we can rest assured we won’t have to wait long for our next fix of musical creativity.
